Blogger Outreach: I thought I had seen it all until I got this email

I'm reading: Blogger Outreach: I thought I had seen it all until I got this emailTweet this!

I'm in my 6th year of blogging, which is to say that I've been here since the dawn of the "marketing to mommy bloggers" trend. At this point I've received thousands of pitches. I've also written a few myself on behalf of MomImpact clients.

I thought I'd seen it all.

And yet, I found this in my inbox this morning:

I just came from visiting your website (link to my long defunct review site) and found a broken link on it and thought you should know:

404 Not Found (link)

Okay that's cool; helpful even. Then I read the next line:

While you are in fixing this would you add a link to my website as well? (link)
My site is: (link) 15,000+ coupons and promotional codes.

Thanks and talk to you soon!

Any outrageous pitches in your inbox lately?

If you're looking for tips on sprucing up your website and clearing out broken links, which is never a bad idea, check out Google's free tools. It's been a while since I've used it, but Website Grader also provides useful, free feedback.

lmao. ok that's one of the funniest pitches i've heard about in a while. at least they were killing to birds with one stone.

Well at least that's better than a request to link to viagra, hair regrowth, or other questionable drugs! Along with a note that those products would be really relevant to your readers.

HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA it never hurts to ask! That's fucking ballsy but WTF.

I despise the impersonal link requests and wonder who accepts them? Someone must or the requests would stop coming, I assume.

Funny, but you know what? That's not so bad IMO. It's genuinely helpful, and in return asking for you to link to their site, which would is at least in the same general neighborhood as what your site was about.

@Drew, you have a good point given that it was my review blog, which I didn't realize at first. This blog has PR 5 and generally good rankings; that blog has bubkis. I wonder if she just happened to notice that broken link and wrote to tell me and figured why not ask for something for herself as a reward or...what? Regardless, it was a very unique request.
